Special Weather Event - Flood Update
Armour Township would like to provide residents with an update regarding the current flooding activity affecting the municipality and the response measures being taken to support our community.
Staff and partners are working closely to monitor conditions and coordinate response efforts specific to areas and public infrastructure that have been significantly impacted by flooding. The municipal emergency control group has been activated and is meeting daily to assess local impacts as the situation continues to evolve.
Township staff received a report this morning (April 16th) from the MNRF that all dams along the affected portions of the Magnetawan River remain open to allow water to discharge through the water system.
We recognize that some residents are experiencing flooding and property damage at their homes and cottages and we are working to provide supports where possible. Disposal bins will be placed at the Katrine Community Centre for the disposal of flood-damaged materials. Please note that this location is under video surveillance, and we ask that all users respect the space and dispose of materials responsibly. Residents are asked to refrain from bringing flood-damaged materials to the landfill until further notice.
The Township Roads Department is working to repair and open affected roads throughout the municipality. The travelling public is asked to use caution while driving in affected areas and to report new or unmarked areas of concern.
Sand bags are available at the Katrine Community Centre – please call ahead to arrange for pickup. Sand is available at the end of Browns Drive and 180 Kent Road for Township residents.
A public meeting will be held at the Katrine Community Centre on Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. This meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions, receive updates, and learn more about ongoing response efforts.
We appreciate the cooperation and resilience of our community during this challenging time. Further updates will be shared as new information becomes available.
