Significant Weather Event Declaration – Flooding Warning April 13–17, 2026
The Township of Armour is declaring a Significant Weather Event in response to flooding concerns resulting from rapid snowmelt, significant rainfall, and forecasted runoff conditions occurring between April 13 and April 17, 2026.
This declaration is made pursuant to Ontario Regulation 239/02 and serves as notice that, due to current and forecasted conditions, the Township may not be able to meet the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.
Summary of Events
· Warm temperatures have caused rapid melting of the snowpack across the Township, resulting in increased runoff, elevated water levels, and saturated ground conditions.
· Recent and forecasted rainfall have further contributed to flooding risks and adverse road conditions.
· The Township Roads Department is actively monitoring conditions, assessing impacts to municipal roads, and undertaking response measures where safe and feasible.
· As of April 14th, road closures have been placed on sections of Chetwynd Road, Lakeview Crescent, Stoney Road and Cherry Hill Road. Additional road closures are possible as the situation continues to evolve.
What This Means:
· Road maintenance and repairs may be delayed or suspended where conditions remain hazardous or inaccessible.
· Road users are advised to:
o Use caution, especially on gravel and low-lying roads.
o Do not drive through standing or moving water, and obey all posted road closure signs and barricades.
o Report significant damage or blocked culverts to the Township.
This declaration will remain in effect until an official notice is issued declaring the end of the event and confirming that regular maintenance can resume. Please refer to the Township of Armour Website for additional information as it becomes available.
